Broken Vessel

It's a quiet thing that simmers

But it pierces through like winter's biting cold.

This pain remains in slivers

On the healing plain of my skin and soul.

At your touch my spirit quivers.

It's never had a love so whole.

I'm blinded by your light yet hungry for it-

I've been deprived

And you're the only one I want to know.

When I'm weak you are my strength

I count that as a blessing,

That I don't have to be complete,

You love me when I'm messy.

I can't forgive sometimes

And I'm plagued by such a selfish mind

But you love me and use what's inside

This broken vessel.

I'm baffled by my own treason

Every time a lie leaves my mouth

But somehow you still bought me freedom

So I'll sing your Gospel loud!

How is grace still mine?

How are you still here sitting next to me?

Oh a hope divine

Was poured out in the blood that you spilled for me.

All my strength and all my time

They are yours. Pour me out so they may believe.

They are yours. Pour me out so they may believe.

In John 12, Mary knelt down at Jesus' feet and anointed him with the perfume she had, and began to wipe His feet with her own hair. What an incredible act of service and love. Yet, Judas reprimanded her for not selling the perfume and giving the proceeds to the poor. Jesus came to her aid, though, and said, "Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial. For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me" (v. 7-8).

This story is a great reminder of the beauty of a servant's heart, and the exceedingly magnificent beauty of our Savior! He is worth the pouring out of all we are and all we have. Even though we are broken vessels, maybe not carrying much, our God is faithful to equip us and to redeem our brokenness for His glory and our good!

May we have the boldness and willingness to be wholly poured out for Jesus, so that others may believe in Him and get to experience His wonderful grace!

With love,

Scarlett
